CT: People's 'dumpster diver' skips court

BRIDGEPORT -- The Fairfield man who threatened to make public
thousands of financial records of People's United Bank customers that
he found in trash bins is a wanted man after skipping a court date
Wednesday.

Superior Court Judge Richard Gilardi issued an order for the
56-year-old Hastings to be brought to court after he failed to show up
for a Wednesday morning hearing at which People's officials wanted to
have him cited for contempt for making a "documentary" of the
materials he found in the bank's trash, which he planned to post on
the Internet site, YouTube.

Hastings, last year, found hundreds of customers' financial records --
with Social Security numbers and account data -- that had been tossed
in trash bins outside People's United Bank branches around the area.

Because of Hastings' discoveries, customers have filed suit against the bank.
