http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/news/2013/09/03/republic-services-security-breach.html A stolen laptop from a Republic Services employee’s Phoenix-area home last month is causing some headaches for the $11.6 billion company and more than 82,000 of its current and former workers. Phoenix-based Republic Services Inc. (NYSE: RSG) reported to its employees, credit bureaus and law enforcement agencies that a laptop containing current and former employees’ personal data was stolen from a current employee’s home in August. Republic is a waste management company with revenue of $8.1 billion and a market cap of $11.6 billion, according to Google Finance. The company has notified potentially impacted current and former workers and filed a theft report with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Republic is also paying for free credit monitoring and credit reports for those potentially impacted. A copy of that notification is on file with the Vermont Attorney General’s office. The company’s attorney also reported to the New Hampshire Department of Justice that the security breach and stolen laptop contained information on more than 82,100 current and former employees. “The laptop contained names and social security numbers. It appears 82,160 individuals could have been affected,” said Republic attorneys Joseph Lazzarotti and Jason Gavejian. Republic officials did not respond to requests for further comment Tuesday. _______________________________________________ Dataloss Mailing List (dataloss () datalossdb org) Archived at http://seclists.org/dataloss/ Unsubscribe at http://lists.osvdb.org/mailman/listinfo/dataloss For inquiries regarding use or licensing of data, e-mail sales () riskbasedsecurity com Supporters: Risk Based Security (http://www.riskbasedsecurity.com/) Risk Based Security offers security intelligence, risk management services and customized security solutions.
