We do a variation on that theme; we use a Packet Shaper to restrict
outbound SMTP traffic from our RESNet network (with the exception of a
few known, pre-approved IP addresses).  The policy has been in place for
the past few years and to my knowledge hasn't been associated with much
in the way of pushback.  Outbound non-compliant-source-addressed SMTP
(which is more often than not SPAM) traffic can then be identified and
investigated via the 'shaper or a number of other homegrown methods.

Hello out there,

 

We are considering blocking all port 25 traffic outbound.  We have noted
various ISP's and others moving to block port 25 outbound to reduce
"spamming".  We wish to be good "netizens"

Have any of you done this already and what has been the push back of
issues related to implementation on your campus?
