I've been on a project where we setup a cd-r system on a linux box,
using 'mkisofs' to create the fs (iso9660 with translations, readable
from win and unix) and then 'cdrecord' to create a cdrom on a yamaha
cdr-400t, no multisessions; the scripts runs periodically and check if
there's enough data to create a cdrom; note that 'mkisofs' is
available for many (unix) platforms, so that you can pre-create your
cdrom image and simply transfer that to the cd-r unit
It's realiable as far as your linux platform is reliable; we had
trouble setting up properly (i.e. working) the scsi card; personally I
would *not* recommend the adaptec aha-2940a
In about 30 minutes (at speed 4) you can create a 600mb cdrom
I'm aware of cdwriter software for Dec Unix
All software retrievable from:
ftp://ftp.fokus.gmd.de/pub/unix/cdrecord ...
ftp://ftp.fokus.gmd.de/pub/unix/kernel/scg ...
Hope it helps
andrea

I recall finding a mkisofs when researching this, but
requirements changed (hi Drew!), and I dropped the project before
researching it further.
DESCRIPTION
mkisofs is effectively a pre-mastering program to generate
the iso9660 filesystem - it takes a snapshot of a given
directory tree, and generates a binary image which will
correspond to an iso9660 filesystem when written to a
block device.
[snip]
mkisofs is available for anonymous ftp from tsx-11.mit.edu
in /pub/linux/packages/mkisofs and many other mirror
sites.
