FC: Florida "legislative survey" does appear to be... real

[The dubious AONN.gov site notwithstanding (http://www.politechbot.com/cgi-bin/politech.cgi?name=aonn), if a .gov site points to this legislative survey, I'd also conclude it's real. --Declan]

This is a good one. My first thought was fraud, especially since every
technical indicator led that way (all DNS records being updated today, etc).
However, <http://www.flsenate.gov/welcome/index.cfm>has a link to
<http://www.myfloridahouse.com/> in the lower left, and fishers haven't
managed to spoof .gov addresses yet.

This confusion is a good reason why the governments should only be using
.gov, .mil, or state.us addressing.

Looks that way to me.

google-groups gets only one hit on myfloridahousemail, but that says it
represents "many" hits.

Hi declan,

Does Eric know about www.samspade.org ?

The domain is owned by Florida Legislative Data Center, so this seems to be
legit... and indeed "a a shocking display of gov't incompetence" :-))

I'm finding it hard to believe this is real, but I can't find an obvious flaw. If it is real, this is a shocking display of gov't incompetence (check out the meek footer). If it's not real, it's a pretty clever way for a spammer to get contact info. Eric.

Hi Declan,

Looks real enough considering the domain registration:
   Domain Name: MYFLORIDAHOUSEMAIL.COM

   Administrative Contact:
Florida House of Representatives (ONBTLKQGNO) baker.mike () myfloridahouse com
      402 S. Monroe Street
      1201 The Capitol
      Tallahassee, FL 32399-1300
      US
      850-488-6026
   Technical Contact:
Network Solutions, Inc. (HOST-ORG) customerservice () networksolutions com
      21355 Ridgetop Circle
      Dulles, VA 20166
      US
      1-888-642-9675 fax: 123 123 1234

   Record expires on 27-Feb-2005.
   Record created on 27-Feb-2003.
Database last updated on 9-Sep-2003 09:30:39 EDT.

   Domain servers in listed order:

   HCSSUN01.HCS.NET 204.194.36.14
   HCSTLH01.HCS.NET 204.194.36.2

hcs.net hosts much (if not all) of the State's Web sites and DNS--see also WHOIS and a traceroute for sunbiz.org, the Fla. Dept. of State's site.
